Counseling & Psychotherapy

Individual Therapy:
I see adolescents and adults in individual therapy to address issues ranging from trauma, personality disorders, depression, and anxiety, to trouble with relationships, self-esteem, and personal growth. I take a non-judgmental, empathic, understanding and insight-oriented approach to treatment. I believe that one's view of him or herself and the issues that have lead to their seeking therapy are influenced by their unique life experiences. Therapy helps people to increase self-awareness, deepen their understanding of factors contributing to their present struggles, and helps them to develop solutions that fit with them as individuals and address their unique life circumstances. More detailed information about my approach can be found here.

Couples Counseling:
My approach with couples is flexible, empathic and fair. Couples that come to me for help frequently do so because they are looking for resources to address new life circumstances, or because they are stuck in patterns of interacting that leave them feeling dissatisfied and unable to adequately resolve problems in their relationship. I take a collaborative approach to couples counseling, working with couples to develop strategies to address their specific concerns and improve their ability to meet the new challenges that life presents. I help couples increase intimacy and satisfaction in their relationship through assisting them in learning ways to communicate more effectively.  I also focus on helping couples identify and alter ways of relating that interfere with their ability to adequately resolve conflict, and prevent them from feeling supported, understood, and secure in their relationship. Some challenges I work with couples to address include:

"Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure, not this thing nor that, but simply growth. We are happy when we are growing."

~ William Butler Yeats
